A demarcação de terras indígenas não é pacífica: sofre contestações do governo quando anuncia assinatura de áreas extensas. A justificativa dessas concessões têm sido o artigo 231 da Constituição Federal. De fato deve-se ater ao expresso na norma escrita, mas o que vem sendo feito é uma política prejudicial aos interesses do Estado e da própria população indígena.
