A cidade de Altamira já começou a receber os participantes do I Encontro de Povos Indígenas do Xingu. Estarão presentes famosos como Brigitte Bardot e o cantor Sting e também cerca de 25 nações indígenas, incluídas algumas da América Central, EUA e Canadá. O encontro ocorrerá para discutir a construção da UHE de Kararaô.
