Numa visita surpresa que fez ao Posto Indígena de Santa Isabel do Morro, onde vivem 350 índios Karaja o presidente da Funai João Carlos Nobre da Veiga, flagrou uma série se irregularidades, entre elas a presença de turistas estrangeiros nas aldeias. Veiga anunciou uma série de medidas para disciplinar o acesso às terras indígenas e promover a realização de projetos econômicos no Parque do Araguaia, que abriga indígenas e também agricultores em situação irregular.
